THE ACTION GOVERNOR OF
NIGER STATE

 

Prince Abdulkhadir Abdullahi Kure, the Action Governor of Niger State was an Engineer of great repute and distinction. He was born in Lapai , Niger State to Mallam Salihu and Mallama Hauwa on 26th of Feb. 1956. His father was a member of the Jantabo Royal Family in Lapai. He started his primary education in Yola, Adamawa State through the effort of his technocrat uncle, Alhaji Abdullahi Kure and later moved to Kaduna for his secondary education. He attended Sardauna Memorial College (SMC) Kaduna and passed out successfully in 1973. He was at the famous Ahmadu Bello University , Zaria from 1973 to 1977 where he graduated with second class, (Upper Division) in Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He started his employment as Assistant Resident Engineer and later the Resident Engineer in the Niger State Ministry of Works. He bacame the Senior Resident Engineer between 1978 to 1979, during which he supervised the construction of Paiko-Lapai road. His quest for further education saw him through University of Newcastle -upon Tyne in the UK where he obtained a Master's degree in Geo-technical engineering in 1982..

Governor Kure was the planning and Design Engineer in Niger State between October 1982 and January 1984. He was appointed the Co-ordinating Engineer from February 1984 after which he transferred his services to the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) in August 1985. Engineer Kure was appointed the Manager of Lower Usuma Dam, the Assistant Director under the Rural Development Directorate in January 1987 and subsequently became the Director of Engineering Services, responsible for the provision of engineering infrastructural facilities such as roads, drainage, bridges, electrical works, sewage lines, telecommunication products in the Federal Capital Territory , Abuja . Governor Kure also supervised the construction of many landmarks, such as the Presidential Villa (Aso Rock) and the Presidential wing of the Abuja International Airport . He retired as Director of Engineering Services (DES) at the Federal Development Authority (FDA) in November 1995 and went into private business as Director of ABU-TURAB INVESTMENTS LIMITED.

Engineer Kure became the Governor of the power state in 1999 and set up the task of Rural and Urban transformation, constructing and commissioning of rural and urban roads, provision of electricity and good water. As a good administrator, he was able to settle the backlog of salaries inherited by past administrations, purchase and distributed motorcycles to various categories of civil servants in the state. He made upward review of salaries and allowances of the state traditional rulers and empowement of local governments through improved standard of living. The dividend of democracy has equally reflected in the Education, Health, Agricultural developments, Youth developments, Transport and Tourism sector of the state. The renovations and construction of classrooms in all nooks and corner of the state, construction of laboratories for secondary schools, computerised of staff information and salaries, provision and distribution of fertiliser, introduction of tractors to farmers, forestry and fishing development in the state, construction and renovations of hospitals, provision of medical supplies and equipments to hospitals and the Governor further provides the Niger State Transport Authority (NSTA), with small and big buses to enhance intra city and inter city transportation.
